How to Make a Real Death Note: A Witchy Tutorial
Warning: this is a very advanced working that I do not recommend to people who are just starting out. Although it is a spell recipe tutorial, you still need to understand the process including all of the parts and their key role in the recipe. Please keep this in mind and be responsible for your craft.

REAL “DEATH NOTE” WITCHCRAFT TUTORIAL
(Baneful Journal Spellwork)
One of my favorite animes growing up was Death Note — the story of a man who discovers a Shinigami’s notebook that kills anyone whose name is written inside. Of course, in real life, one cannot kill with pen and paper alone. But in witchcraft, there is a baneful way to imitate its effects through spellwork: crafting a cursed journal that acts as a vessel for hexing.
⚠️ Warning: This is advanced baneful work, not recommended for beginners. Even though this is presented as a recipe, you must understand the role of each component, how to safely handle baneful ingredients, and how to cleanse and protect yourself before and after. Work responsibly.
You Will Need
• A blank book (unused) or materials to create one (paper, needle & thread, cardboard, cloth)
• Baneful ingredients (see list + correspondences below)
• Cauldron or pot
• Black candle + lighter/matches
• Inscribing tool (athame, pin, or stylus)
• Spoon (for stirring)
• Glue
• (Optional) Broken mirror pieces
Method 1: Using a Pre-Made Journal
Choose a new, unused journal. Ideally black, preferably leather — black corresponds to baneful magick, protection, and shadow work, while leather resists water and holds energy well.
Baneful Mixture Base
In your cauldron/pot, combine any of the following (do not use every single one unless guided; choose by correspondence):
• Vinegar – banishment, souring, decay
• Ocean water – raw power, emotional upheaval, drowning influence
• Alcohol – spirit offering, fire energy, destruction, loosening inhibitions
• Cleavers/Willow – entrapment, binding, sorrow
• Coffin nails / Rusty metal – graveyard energy, corrosion, death’s touch
• Broken glass – cutting ties, causing harm, shattering illusions
• Knotweed – restriction, binding, halting progress
• Rotten fruit – decay, corruption, disease
• Spiders – entanglement, fear, manipulation
• Thorns – pain, protection, piercing energy
• Vines – constriction, binding, slow suffocation
• Charcoal & Ash – destruction, endings, remnants of fire
• Holly – baneful protection, deflection of malice
• Yew berries – death, underworld connection (⚠️ toxic – handle with care)
• Cherry laurel – poisonous influence, shadow work (⚠️ toxic – handle carefully)
• Blueberry – confusion, dark glamour, masking intentions
⚠️ Avoid direct-contact poisons (hemlock, foxglove, belladonna). Do not use biohazards like bodily waste or harsh chemicals.
Steps
1. Prepare Mixture
• Bring ingredients to a boil until bubbling. Let cool fully. This is your baneful infusion.
2. Candle & Incantation
• Carve or inscribe a baneful sigil into your black candle.
• Light it with focused intention.
• Speak an incantation (or craft a sigil) such as:
“By fire, ash, and poisoned breath, I weave your downfall, I call your death.”
3. Simmer & Stir
• Reheat the mixture and stir counterclockwise (banishing motion).
• Continue until the candle has burned about halfway. The liquid should be darkened.
4. Book Immersion
• Dip your journal completely into the mixture. Let it soak.
• If you have eclipse water, add it now to expose recipients under shadow and cosmic imbalance.
5. Drying
• Let the journal soak until the candle extinguishes.
• Air-dry fully.
6. Optional Enhancements
• Glue shards of a broken mirror into the inside cover → reflects malice back onto the sender, rebounds curses.
• Write a dedication/intention on the first page, much like the anime’s “Death Note.”
• Press dried baneful herbs between pages → e.g., buttercup for impotence, nettles for irritation, thistles for hardship.
Method 2: Crafting Your Own Book
If you prefer to create your own:
• Plain paper (soaked in baneful mixture)
• Needle & thread (black/red = hexing, blood, sacrifice)
• Cardboard (structure, boundary)
• Cloth (black or red; can be embroidered with sigils)
1. Soak paper, cardboard, and cloth in the baneful infusion. Air dry.
2. Sew the pages into book form with thread.
3. Bind cardboard + cloth into a cover (glue or stitch).
4. Infuse with additional baneful herbs, sigils, or mirror shards if desired.
How to Use
• Write the full name of the target inside.
• Specify the form of hex (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual).
• For stronger effect, add a taglock: hair, nails, photo, or personal item.
• Can be used standalone or as part of larger cursework.
Sealing the Book
• A physical lock works, but Bindweed is stronger — binding the target to the curse and “trapping” them in the pages.
Safety & Aftercare
• Always cleanse and ward yourself before and after.
• Dispose of baneful remnants carefully (burial, crossroads, or sealed container).
• Remember: what you weave, you are also responsible for.
